Desirée Barnes was born in St. Johns, Antigua and moved to the United States in 1979. She attended Miami-Dade Community College, Herbert H. Lehman College of CUNY in New York and Florida Atlantic University. After living in New York for several years, she returned to Broward County in 1998 and worked for the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as a Commission Aide for 14 years. After a short stint as a Legal Assistant at one of Ft. Lauderdale’s major law firm, she is currently pursuing her dream of being a minority (female) entrepreneur in South Florida. Ms. Barnes is very socially active and is a stalwart supporter and contributor to the Kiwanis-sponsored “Christmas In July” program where impoverished children are treated to a day of gifts, food and clothing at the annual charity event. She has volunteered at the Merrell United Methodist Church where she served on the Missions Ministry and Staff Parish Committees. Ms. Barnes is currently serving her fourth term as President of the Antigua & Barbuda Association of South Florida, where she will continue to focus her energies on community service, fundraising, promoting and growing the organization. She has been a member of the Association since 1999. Ms. Barnes currently lives in Margate, Florida where she enjoys life with her children and granddaughter, HazelB.
Jessica James Berman is from the Village of Parham. She attended Christ the King High
School and The Antigua State College, in Antigua. Jessica migrated to South Florida in
August 2004 and currently resides in Fort Lauderdale.
Jessica has a Bachelor’s degree in Travel & Tourism Management from Florida
International University. A highlight for Jessica was working in Anchorage Alaska as a
guest services host with Holland America Cruise Line in summer 2006. In her career,
she has worked in retail as a store manager and has various sales management positions.
Jessica is serving her second term as Vice President of the Antigua & Barbuda Association of South Florida. She has
been a member of the Association since 2011, and has served as secretary and public relations officer of the Association. Mrs Berman is the mother of 2 children and is currently pursuing a career in teaching. Jessica is
passionate about helping children and hopes in the near future to start a food distribution program in Antigua.
Patricia Richards Caines aka Patsy, hails from the village of Liberta, Antigua. She has been living in South Florida for the past 29 year. She enjoys helping fellow Antiguans in distress and therefore has been an active member of the ABASF since 2000. Her volunteer activities include the Missions Ministry and Farm Share Programs at her local church. She loves traveling and meeting new people. She has been working diligently with special needs children in the Public School system
Vincere “Patsy” King, was born in St John’s Antigua and lived in USVI (30) New York (5) & Currently Florida (35+) years. Vincere attended Antigua Girl’s High School and then the American Institute of Banking. She has 30+ years of Banking and Retail experience combined. She received the Customer Service All Star Award in 2009 while working at Nordstrom. She is currently retired and always jumps at the chance to assist whenever and whenever possible. She has been an active member of the ABASF since 1998. Vincere currently resides in Tamarac and is the mother of two handsome sons.
PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
Veronica Anthony, was born in St. Croix U.S.V.I to Antiguan parents and relocated back to Antigua when she was quite young so Veronica grew up in Antigua and considers Antigua her home. She attended the Antigua Girls High School where she was very active in track and field and contemporary dance. Veronica represented Antigua in Track and Field up to and including the CARIFTA Games in Jamaica in 1981. She graduated in 1981 and relocated to Florida in 1985 to further her education. She has an Associate Degree in Computer Engineering & Science. She continued her education while raising her 3 beautiful daughters and working a full-time job. Veronica was introduced to ABASF in 1987 and has been a past president and an active member. She transferred to Maryland for 5 yrs because of work and was a member of the Antigua and Barbuda Association of Baltimore City until she returned to Florida in 2009. Veronica currently resides in Deerfield Beach and works full time as a Microsoft Engineering Support Agent. Veronica plays a big role in the rearing of her 5 awesome grandchildren. She also participates in the American Cancer Society walk. When she is not working, Veronica loves to travel, and is an active member of the CaribIsles Dance Group.

Audrey Tonge aka Sandy was born in Antigua’s Villa Area and later transitioned to South Florida (via New York) over 30 years ago. Sandy has been actively working the sidelines of the Association for several years and has now taken on the dual role of Assistant Secretary and Assistant PRO with a promise to give it her all. She has a passion for the mission of this Association and is eager to contribute and make life a little better for the less fortunate in our country.
